Lesson 1.1 — What NestJS is
ReadStep 1 of 5
A framework on top of Node.js and Express
In the Node.js course you built an API with Express. You wrote routes, middleware and handlers, and you chose where every piece of code went.
NestJS (often called Nest) is a framework for building servers. A framework is a set of ready-made parts plus rules about how to arrange them.
- Nest runs on Node.js. It is not a new runtime.
- By default it uses Express underneath to receive HTTP requests.
- You write it in TypeScript, which is JavaScript with types. Module 2 teaches the TypeScript you need.
This course teaches NestJS 11. Across the course you will build one small API that stores a list of tasks.
src/main.ts
Tab indents. Press Escape, then Tab, to leave the editor. Control or Command plus Enter runs the code.
This code needs a server, so it is not run here. Check looks for the right pieces. Try it for real in your own project.
